Sand City

2014. Cast Glass Sand Castles

Summer fun at the beach. Sand, buckets and endless fun. Making, stomping and remaking sand castles like mini cities. “Sand City” attempts to capture the ephemeral whimsical nature of sand castles making them permanent, yet still fragile, by solidifying the sand in a glass state.

The glass sand castle city is a comment on how, we even as kids, try and control nature by playing god over a sand city. As adults we build our expansive cities, creating a false sense of security. Like the waves destroying sandcastle so too does mother nature’s wrath of global warming, tidal waves and earth quakes, have the final say over our cities fate.
